“Art must break with the practices of the perfumed, perverse, hypersensitive, hysterical, romantic, individualistic, boudoir-type art of yesterday. It must create a new language of forms, available to all and in harmony with the rhythm of life.”
-History of Modern Design

I consider myself a functional artist more than a furniture designer. When I create my work I value making it function in multiple ways and applying a concept that works beyond the surface.
Through exploration of materials and processes I create that which I believe is a new way of looking at the world. I want the viewer to stop and be surprised by my work, whether it is from its choice of materials, movability, interaction of parts or number of pieces. The work is meant to address both aesthetic and conceptual questions, while speaking on different levels to constantly provide interest to the viewer.
There is an evident presence of repetition of pieces and of the change and progression of forms in what I do. My work address the issues of change, alteration and exploration and is used as a vehicle to express thoughts as a three dimensional functional object. I am constantly pushing the limits of my concepts and technical skills to achieve and fully realize the thoughts and pictures in my mind.
I have recently become interested in sustainable design and community art. I am only beginning to understand the true existence of the world and my place in it but I feel that the concepts of sustainability and community outreach would help guide me through this exploration. I see myself using these ideas in my work with the reuse and recycling of materials. I am working to re-evaluate the role of humans in the bigger systems of life, looking at my actions as a catalyst to understand the practices and perceptions of people and to genuinely do my part to better this place that I call home.
